2. Kinky Boots
Kinky Boots is a musical with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein. Having inherited a shoe factory from his father, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola to produce a line of high-heeled boots and save the business. Set in early 19th-century France, the musical tells the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his desire for redemption, released after serving nineteen years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister's starving child. Valijean breaks parole and is chased throughout the play by the police and he gets caught up with young idealists who are trying to overthrow Paris.

4. Wicked
Wicked is based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, in turn based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film adaptation. The show is told from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz. Its plot begins before and continues after Dorothy Gale arrives in Oz from Kansas. Wicked tells the story of two unlikely friends, Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda (later Glinda the Good Witch), whose relationship struggles through their opposing personalities and viewpoints, same love interest, reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's fall from grace.

The story is of Charlie Bucket, poor boy who doesn't have enough to eat buys and wins a chance to go into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

10. My Fair Lady
My Fair Lady is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalion. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from Professor Henry Higgins, a phonetician, so that she may pass as a lady. Despite his cynical nature and difficulty understanding women, Higgins grows attached to her. The musical's 1956 Broadway production was a notable critical and popular success, winning six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It set a record for the longest run of any musical on Broadway up to that time and was followed by a hit London production. Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews starred in both productions.

30. Come From Away
Come from Away is based on the events in the Newfoundland town of Gander during the week following the September 11 attacks, when 38 planes, carrying approximately 7,000 passengers, were ordered to land unexpectedly at Gander International Airport. The characters in the musical are based on (and in most cases share the names of) actual Gander residents and stranded travelers they housed and fed.
