*1. In the Heat of the Night
In the Heat of the Night is an American police procedural crime drama television series loosely based on the 1967 film and 1965 novel of the same title that starred Carroll O'Connor as police chief Bill Gillespie and Howard Rollins as police detective Virgil Tibbs and was set in Sparta Mississippi. The show dealt with a variety of issues, including racism, police brutality, interracial relationships, hate crimes, drug trafficking, drug addiction, alcoholism, AIDS, misogyny, incest, child abuse, sexual harassment, euthanasia, anti-Semitism, political corruption, prostitution, domestic violence, mental disorders, dysfunctional families, suicide, capital punishment, poverty and drunk driving.

3. Homicide Life on the Street
Homicide: Life on the Street is an American police drama television series chronicling the work of a fictional version of the Baltimore Police Department's Homicide Unit and was succeeded by Homicide: The Movie, which served as the series finale. The show was the start of the character John Munch who went on to Law and Order SVU. Andre Braugher emerged as a breakout star through his portrayal of Detective Frank Pembleton.[

The Rookie is an American police procedural crime drama television series. The series follows John Nolan, a man in his forties, who becomes the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department. The series is based on real-life LAPD officer William Norcross, who moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and joined the department in his mid-40s.

5. Castle
Castle is an American crime mystery/comedy-drama television series. Richard Castle is a famous mystery novelist. Bored and suffering from writer's block, he kills off Derrick Storm, the main character in his successful book series. He is brought in by the New York Police Department for questioning regarding a copycat murder based on one of his novels, where he meets and becomes intrigued by Detective Kate Beckett the officer assigned to the case. Castle is inspired to take Beckett as his muse for Nikki Heat, the main character of his next book series, and uses his friendship with the mayor to pressure the police to let him shadow Beckett. .

6. Hill Street Blues
Hill Street Blues is an American serial police procedural television series. The show chronicles the lives of the Metropolitan Police Department staff of a single police station located on Hill Street in an unnamed large city, although the opening credits show scenes from the city of Chicago. Each episode featured intertwined storylines, some of which were resolved within the episode, with others developing throughout a season.

9. The Wire
The Wire is an American crime drama television series created and primarily written by American author and former police reporter David Simon. Set and produced in Baltimore, Maryland, The Wire introduces a different institution of the city and its relationship to law enforcement in each season while retaining characters and advancing storylines from previous seasons. The five subjects are, in chronological order; the illegal drug trade, the port system, the city government and bureaucracy, education and schools, and the print news medium.

A." Zidan, a West Point graduate from Queens who spent two years undercover for the DEA before being cherry-picked by the FBI. Overseeing them is Special Agent-in-Charge Dana Mosier. The team also includes Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine, the nerve center of the office whose ability to easily relate to and engage with both superiors and subordinates makes him a master motivator. Kristen Chazal is a brilliant analyst recruited straight out of college.

15. Hunter
Hunter is an American crime drama television series created by Frank Lupo. It stars Fred Dryer as Sgt. Rick Hunter and Stepfanie Kramer as Sgt. Dee Dee McCall. The title character Sgt. Rick Hunter is a wily, physically imposing, often rule-breaking homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. Hunter frowns about female cops but Dee Dee McCall is a hard-edged police woman whose unorthodox detective work which rivals that of Hunter's, is not a typical female police detective.
